KENSINGTON, CA – November 20, 2007 – Local husband and wife team Marc LaJoie and Trish McDermott announce the grand opening of “The Arlington” – a neighborhood cafe featuring fresh, local and organic food and drinks. Located at 269 Arlington Avenue in Kensington, formerly Shai’s, The Arlington officially opens doors for business in November 2007 and is poised to become a favorite neighborhood hang out and hot spot.
A place to eat-in, take-home and cater your events, The Arlington will offer a great, mouth-watering menu created by Chef Marc LaJoie. Marc, with a passion for organic foods, has created a menu featuring a wide variety of dishes made from local, organic, and sustainable ingredients, while retaining some of Shai’s old favorites. Marc’s recipes combine a healthy mix of ingredients that taste great and feature fresh, seasonal produce. Also being offered are locally produced beverages including wine, beer, and soft drinks.
“Our concept is “eat where you live” which doesn’t mean you have to live nearby to enjoy our food, our goal is to support and utilize local vendors and suppliers in a green environment”, says Marc. Trish adds “We wanted to create a place for people to gather and feel comfortable in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy their meal with family and friends”.
The Arlington menu features a range of breakfast dishes including organic coffees, fresh baked goods and mouth-watering quiche and breakfast burritos. The lunch menu features a full deli, hot panini sandwich specials, piping hot soups, inventive salads and seasonal side dishes. The dinner menu consists of all the lunch time favorites plus hot entrée daily specials such as vegetarian and meat lasagnas, beef stew, sweet potato enchiladas and more to come. A kids menu will be offered with a range of healthy items for kids to choose from.
Lajoie and McDermett hope The Arlington will give local residents a great way to enjoy delicious meals in a casual and laid-back environment or to take out to share with family and friends in the comfort of their own homes. They also will continue catering which was the primary service of the previous owners. The Arlington will be open Wednesday thru Friday 7:30 am to 8pm , Saturday 8am to 8pm, Sunday and Monday 8 am to 4 pm. ABOUT MARC & TRISH
Both Marc and Trish are both originally from the east coast, he from western MA and she from Philadelphia. Marc has worked in the restaurant business and most recently in health care and Trish worked the last ten years in marketing for the Gap. This restaurant is a dream come true and way for them to do what they love and spend more time with their family. Best of all is their commute- Marc and Trish live on The Arlington with their always hungry children, Sage, 8 years old, Aidan, 5, and Hadley 2, and their big, brown dog Gatsby.
